SLIPPER LOBSTER

Morphological Characteristics:

  • Thick carapace with 6 head segments and 8 thoracic segments.

  • Head: multiple mouthparts, 2 pairs of antennae.

  • Thorax: 6 abdominal segments + 2 secondary thoracic segments (contain 2 legs).

  • Size: Some species grow up to 50cm.

  • Weight: 0.5 - 1.2kg on average, some reach 2kg.

  • Meat: ⅓ to ½ of body weight, white, firm, sweet, and mildly aromatic.

Reproductive Season

  • Duration: September to May (peak in March - April).

  • Habitat during spawning: Migrates to shallow waters, prefers sandy bottoms or coral reefs.
