SLIPPER LOBSTER
Thick carapace with 6 head segments and 8 thoracic segments.
Head: multiple mouthparts, 2 pairs of antennae.
Thorax: 6 abdominal segments + 2 secondary thoracic segments (contain 2 legs).
Size: Up to 55mm, some species like Scyllarides haanii grow up to 50cm.
Weight: 0.5 - 1.2kg on average, some reach 2kg.
Meat: ⅓ to ½ of body weight, white, firm, sweet, and mildly aromatic.
Varieties: All are edible, most common are red and white slipper lobsters.
Duration: September to May (peak in March - April).
Habitat during spawning: Migrates to shallow waters, prefers sandy bottoms or coral reefs.
